craft beerFrom my first tastes of home brewed beers and aged wine at college (where pasties, pickled eggs and beer were tradition), I am pleased with the direction of the tourism industry in southwest Michigan. Michigan brewer’s blossom in this ingenious and fast growing industry bringing life and culture across the state, and at the heart of it is Kalamazoo.

US News & World Report, in 2014, lists Kalamazoo as one of the 8 Underrated Beer Cities. Other noteworthy recognitions include Liveability.com ranked Kalamazoo #4 top beer city in the nation in 2012; Kalamazoo was ranked #3 Beer Town in America in 2013 by Business Insider; Kalamazoo ranked #2 in the Beer City USA contest online poll in 2013. Read more ratings and find events on DiscoverKalamazoo.com. Check out the Kalamazoo Brewery Map and watch for the annual Kalamazoo Beer Week (KBW) in January where brewers come together with hundreds of interactive events, special tastings, dinners, and collaboration beers.

From brewery tours to winery tours, west Michigan is sure to offer picturesque scenery from St Julian Winery and the Warner Vineyards in Paw Paw, Tabor Hill Champagne Cellar in Bridgman or the Tabor Hill Winery & Restaurant in Buchanan, to Gonzo’s BiggDogg Brewing Co or Bell’s Brewery in Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids Brewing Company and the hundreds of other unique locations across Michigan.

Plan your trip around a bed and breakfast, arrange transportation services for your group, or join a wine or craft beer club for the latest news and events.

Start at Bell’s Brewery, the state’s oldest microbrewery, for a free tour on Saturdays and Sundays.
